Back to Glossary

SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is a kind of computerized remote monitoring and control system for industrial and energy applications, such as battery energy storage systems (BESS).

SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is a kind of computerized remote monitoring and control system for industrial and energy applications, such as battery energy storage systems (BESS).

SCADA is not a specific device, protocol, or standard; rather, it is an approach for managing large, complex, high-criticality systems remotely. A SCADA system collects data and manages the settings of the many individual devices involved in a large-scale BESS. Compared with other approaches, SCADA is characterized by supervisory control, where the system under management functions automatically while operators monitor, adjust settings, enter schedules, and respond to alerts from a central location.
